Today on the show, two photographers, Patrick Stubbs and Sean Gallagher recount stories about the father-figure mentors in their lives and the pictures they made upon their passing. We discuss the mental health benefits of having photography during the more challenging times of our lives and how projects can bring meaning to our work. We also learn what it takes to make set photographs on some of America’s top-loved TV shows and why the everyday objects around us can be photographic gold.

There is the most incredibly potent story and picture from a good friend of the show, Marissa Roth. Margaret ‘Peggy’ Moffitt was an American model and actress. During the 1960s, she worked very closely with fashion designer Rudi Gernreich, and developed a signature style that featured heavy makeup and an asymmetrical haircut. Peggy in ‘Blow-Up’ and ‘Comme Des Garçons’ (Warning - nudity). Peggy was married to American photographer William Claxton.

SHUTTER SYNC

Niklas Loges: Today I got around to clearing my backlog of podcasts, we are on vacation right now and I had a little time just for me. Time to listen to an episode of Photowalk. My wife and 8 year old twins went on a via ferrata and as I'm terrified of heights, I took advantage of the time and did some hiking in the beautiful scenery of the Austrian Alps. I am sending you the result of the shutter sync in the attachment and hope you can use the picture despite the delay.

Matthies Wesche: I was about to write about the context in which I took this shot but I figured you might probably not even want to know but paint your own picture when it comes to where me and the other listener enjoy the show.

Mike Miller: Very busy week this week with all kinds of contractors working on our cottage. I did manage to make an image while listening to the podcast after dinner. I was just finishing up the dishes and made this image.

(It sort of looks like a satellite image of a hurricane that is over the Atlantic Ocean.)

Mark Mackay: The photo comes from West Beach (South Australia) at an inlet. I was a little further a long the coast meeting a colleague when I noticed the waves and thought I’d come back home that way. I was out walking to capture a few photos when the podcast came to shutter sync. So good timing. A pelican happened to fly by at the time along with a few sea gulls.

Yet to finish the show … next car ride :-). However, have enjoyed the episode thus far. Don’t give up on the poetry - I used to hate it at school, but perhaps your short inclusions each show will benefit many.
