#240 VAN LIFING WITH A CAMERA - BEST JOB EVER!
Photojournalist Ryan Vizzions excites us about being on the open road in a van, photographing every American state to produce the most remarkable life experience book. We talk about escapism, freedom, mental health, the wonder of making photographs, solitude, social media, the human spirit and how being on the road affects basic instinct and needs such as sleep. But he’s not doing this entirely alone, as you’ll find out. Ryan has been a guest once before when he talked of pictures about protest and tomorrow on the Thursday Patreon show, he talks about the most precious picture made so far, one of which you can see below; the Mustangs in Utah. Patron of the Day today is London based photographer Anna McCarthy. A former BBC Editor, Anna’s work shows a plethora of experience and a natural craft in knowing photographically how to be in the right place at the right time and that’s not something you learn, that’s something that is instinctive. Her new website is testament to using this challenging time for working photographers, to redesign and relaunch a new website - which is a gateway too to a well curated Instagram feed. Recently we featured Anna’s work in the Photo Essays part of this website where she takes a Fujifilm X100V on a series of walks at Prawle Point, Devon’s most southerly point in the UK. Her work is certainly in keeping with today’s theme in many respects; “I had no agenda, no brief, no deadline or purpose. Just to walk, stop, look, take a picture and repeat. Life pared down.”
