THE CHURCHES PROJECT
A work and study in progress. I started this project due to being in a bit of a photography rut, I tend to go through the same thing every year through the summer months, being a landscape/seascape photographer predominantly and also based on the east coast of the UK, I tend to favour sunrises on the coast but as they’re so early this time of year, I very rarely make it out for a sunrise shoot.
I'm always looking up at the sky checking which way the wind direction is and a lot of the time it’s one of the things I check prior to going to a location. I don't always opt for a long exposure to show the movement of the clouds but if I feel the sky isn't particularly interesting and adding to the scene then it is something I consider. To achieve the effect, I use neutral density filters to allow me to keep the shutter open for a really long time and typically I use a shutter speed of about 2 to 4 minutes all dependent on the speed the clouds are moving. I also usually take a few images at different shutter speeds and choose which I prefer when I get them on the computer.
So, as I have always had a bit of a fascination with churches (despite not having religious leaning) I decided to explore some of the churches in East Anglia, especially the more unique buildings and those that have an interesting history and story to tell.
I have thoroughly enjoyed travelling around the region to find and photograph these churches and sharing the story behind them, especially the ones that are not very well known, I still have many more to photograph especially in Norfolk as it has the highest concentration of medieval churches in the world!
