Some news following last week’s shows as we headed into New Year. You’ll remember our guest Darrin Zammit Lupi, the renowned and respected Reuters photographer based in Malta, who in episodes 128 and 129 early in November ‘Empowering my daughter’ talked about the photo story he had been making with his teenage daughter Rebecca about her fight with a rare form of bone cancer. Darrin had mentioned last week how Rebecca was now really in her last few days and I was saddened to receive word she passed yesterday morning. I’m sure those who heard the episodes and those who emailed in following them will want to join me in wishing Darrin and his wife Marisa all our love at this time from the photographic community.
Patron of the day mention for Nick Norris; “I once shared my uncanny story to you before, I went from homeless vigilante to putting myself through college while living in the campus library. I graduated with a degree in Anthropology that lead to using a camera consistently. My holistic approach and turbulent path had me talking to people from all walks of life. I'm enthralled by their personal tales, and what I found is that I don't need to hone a single path to a razor's edge to be a storyteller. I am a storyteller. Nick’s work can be found at BokehBard.com - his insta is @BokehBard – patrons, be sure you write in through the Patreon app, because it’s good to be able to share your work to a wider audience. It’s 2021, do not be shy.
Today’s show is supported by the camera professional people, MPB.com, the number one platform for buying, selling and trading used gear in the States and Europe. I know that I'd find it hard to promote something I don't know or haven't personally used on this channel and I have a strong history personally of using MPB to buy, sell and trade gear - taking away the nightmare scenario that some trading platforms have where you just don't know what you're getting, have no guarantee and often the uncertainty that the kit being advertised is the kit you get. That's the thing about MPB, when you buy you can click on an item and have a look at the ACTUAL thing you're buying.
